What a receipt proves
A receipt is written confirmation that money changed hands. For the person who paid it is proof they met their obligation. For the person who was paid it is a record of income that matches the invoice or sale.
What to include
- The word Receipt and a unique number.
- The date the payment was received, not just the date written.
- Who received it and who paid.
- What was paid for, or the invoice number.
- The amount and currency.
- The payment method and a reference such as the last four card digits.
- Any balance still owed.

Receipt maker, receipt generator and receipt template: what is the difference?
A receipt template is a blank layout, and a receipt maker or receipt generator fills it in for you and calculates the amounts. Invoicz is an online receipt generator: enter who paid, how much, when and how, then download a clean PDF with no account and no watermark.
Receipts for cash, bank transfer and card payments
- Cash: choose Cash, write the amount received and give the customer a copy straight away.
- Bank transfer: choose Bank transfer and add the reference or the invoice number.
- Card or online payment: add the transaction ID or the last four digits as the payment reference.
- Partial payment: show the amount received and state what is still owed in the notes.
Genuine receipts only
Use this tool only for payments you have really received. A receipt that records a payment that did not happen, or that changes a real one, can be fraud. If you lost a receipt for a real payment, ask the seller to reissue it.
Receipt versus invoice
Send an invoice when you are asking to be paid, and a receipt once you have been. Some businesses mark the original invoice as paid instead; either approach works as long as the payment date, method and a zero balance are clear.

Can I make a receipt without signing up?
Yes. There is no account. Fill in the form, download the PDF and send it. Nothing you type is uploaded, and the form starts blank each time.
What should a payment receipt include?
Who received the money, who paid, the date paid, the amount, what it was for, the payment method and a receipt number. If it settles an invoice, add the invoice number so both sides can match them.
What is the difference between a receipt and an invoice?
An invoice asks for payment that is still due. A receipt confirms that payment has already been received. Sending the invoice first and the receipt after payment gives both of you a clean record.
Is a receipt legally required?
It depends on where you are and who the customer is. Many places require businesses to give a receipt on request or for certain sales, and tax authorities expect you to keep records of income. Even where it is not required, a receipt is good practice. Check your local rules.
Can I make a receipt for a cash payment?
Yes. Choose Cash in Payment method, enter the amount received and add a receipt number. For card or bank payments you can add the transaction ID or last four digits in Payment reference.
Can I use this to make a receipt for something I did not actually receive?
No. This tool is for genuine business payments you have really received. Creating receipts that are false or misleading is not allowed under our terms and can be illegal.
How do I number receipts?
Use a simple sequence such as 1, 2, 3 or R-2026-001 and never reuse a number. Choose New document after each one and the next number is suggested.
Can I add tax to a receipt?
Yes. Click + Tax, name the tax (sales tax, VAT or GST) and enter the rate. Tick “Prices include tax” if the amounts you entered already contain it.
How do I send the receipt to the customer?
Download the PDF and attach it to an email or message. The file is named after the person you received the payment from, for example Awasi_Umar_receipt_12.pdf, so it is easy to find later.
What is the best free receipt generator?

Does the receipt have a watermark?
No. Receipts you create with Invoicz are free of watermarks and there is no limit on how many you can make.
Can I put my own logo on the receipt?
Yes. Click the Add logo box and choose a PNG, JPG or WebP image up to 2 MB. It appears on the preview, the PDF and the printout.
Can I make a receipt on my phone?
Yes. Open the page in your phone browser, fill in the form and press Download PDF. No app is needed.
Can fake receipts be detected, and is it safe to make one?
Please do not use any generator to create receipts for payments or purchases that did not happen. Invented or altered receipts can be detected and using them can carry legal consequences. Invoicz is for genuine business payments you have actually received. If you need a copy of a real receipt, ask the seller to reissue it.
